Prenatal massage refers to specific massage techniques that have been shown to reduce pregnancy discomforts and to enhance the physiological and emotional well-being of both the mother and her developing baby.

Most often pregnant women seek massage therapy for the muscular aches and pains associated with their changing bodies.  Pregnancy massage is great for relieving stress, pain, sinus congestion, round ligament pain, intercostal (ribs) restriction, lower back pain and edema for soon-to-be moms.

A massage therapist will use pillows to position you into the semi-recline position, where they can best work on pain and soreness in the shoulders, neck, arms and legs.  Then your massage therapist is taught to safely help you onto their left side, which allows us to work the back, including the lower back.  You will be covered with a sheet at all times, the only areas exposed will be the areas that your massage therapist works on.  Your modesty is very important .

Massage has been known to calm many of the aches and pains associated with pregnancy such as:

  • Sciatica
  • Swelling
  • Back and neck pain
  • Stomach upset

Prenatal massage has also been shown to improve physical discomforts by encouraging circulation and by stretching the muscles and joints to their full range of motion to improve skin elasticity and body tone. Studies show that pregnant women who receive regular prenatal massages are more at ease - furthermore relaxing the fetus inside their womb.
